Donald Trump | The Guardian: Trump dump: president throws entire box of fish food into precious koi carp pond

While his host, Japans prime minister Shinzo Abe, spoons small amounts of feed, the US leader gives the fish a large feastIt was perhaps only a matter of time before Donald Trumps brasher instincts smashed through the ring of decorum that had held fast on his gaffe-free first day in Japan.

The victims: the colourful, and much loved, koi carp of Akasaka palace in Tokyo.

Palmer Report: Holy crap is Donald Trump screwed

It turns out Donald Trump is even more screwed than we thought. In reality, he was screwed the minute Special Counsel Robert Mueller successfully reached the arrest stage last Monday. It gave a new level of credibility to the Trump-Russia scandal in the minds of average Americans who hadn’t been sure what to think of all the noise up to this point. But now we may be looking at something different altogether. Trump is not just going to get ousted from office. His entire life is about to get carved up while he’s forced to watch.Four crucial storylines emerged yesterday, in a sign of just how quickly things are now snowballing. Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner has years of massive and secret investments from Russia that could only have been signed off on by Vladimir Putin himself, according to the New York Times and the Paradise Papers. This means that Mueller is now in a position to bust Kushner like a piñata, leaving Kushner little choice but to cut a deal against Trump if he wants to avoid prison. Not only will this destroy Trump’s presidency, it’ll destroy his family. And it’s just the start of the fireworks.

Trump’s Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross was busted yesterday for his own massive secret financial connections to Putin. He’ll likely have to cut a deal himself and he may be in a unique position to expose Trump’s own suspected financial ties to Putin. There was also the revelation that Michael Flynn is about to be arrested and he may cut a deal against Trump in order to keep his own son out of prison.

Then there’s the bizarre storyline about Donald Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort facing possible murder charges in Ukraine. This fouls up any attempt by Trump at pardoning Manafort to try to keep him quiet. It also makes the Trump-Russia scandal look incredibly real in the minds of the public, now that murders are involved. Holy crap is Trump screwed.

Palmer Report: Rick Gates may have to flip on Paul Manafort to keep his own wife out of prison

Rick Gates is best known as the other Donald Trump campaign adviser who got arrested this week, after the higher profile arrest of Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort grabbed the bulk of the headlines. Based on new details surfacing about the legal cases against them, the two men are closely intertwined financially, meaning Gates could flip rather authoritatively on Manafort. Now it turns out Gates may have to flip on Manafort in order to save his own wife.Manafort and Gates were both arrested on charges of laundering money from Russia into the United States, as payment they had received for getting a Kremlin puppet elected in Ukraine. That money was funneled through Bank of Cyprus, which is now cooperating with the Trump-Russia investigation. Gates has dozens of bank accounts and may have been hiding tens of millions of dollars in assets, according to a report from the Washington Post (link), which also contains this vital sentence: “In August, his wife transferred more than $1 million to a joint brokerage account.”

If it can be demonstrated that Rick Gates’ wife knew this money was dirty at the time she transferred $1 million of it from Bank of Cyprus to the United States, then she can be charged with money laundering or related crimes as well. She could avoid charges by flipping on her husband, who would then be backed into a corner and have little choice but to flip on Manafort. Alternately, Gates could keep his wife out of prison by flipping on Manafort.

This may in fact be why Rick Gates’ wife hasn’t yet been arrested. Special Counsel Robert Mueller may be giving Gates the opportunity to cut a deal that would protect his wife, while also threatening to arrest his wife if that deal isn’t reached promptly. It quite a giveaway that Mueller’s filings against Rick Gates include the detail about his wife. If Gates flips on Manafort, then Manafort will have to flip on Donald Trump.

Palmer Report: Mike Pence is in deep shit

Vice President Mike Pence has been keeping a remarkably low profile lately, presumably under the premise that if he keeps his head down long enough, he might inherit the presidency by default. But even as it becomes increasingly clear that Donald Trump isn’t going to survive his catastrophically exploding Trump-Russia scandal, Pence now is facing a huge problem of his own and it’s about to get much worse for him.The arrest of Donald Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort was already a huge problem for Mike Pence. For reasons known only to them, Pence and Manafort were regularly communicating by phone while Pence was in charge of the Trump transition team, for reasons that could not have been above-board. Actually those reasons may also be known to investigators, as Manafort was under wiretap surveillance during that same timeframe; it’s not known if the phone calls between Manafort and Pence were picked up. Now that the legal system is about to pick Manafort to pieces, his weird secret connection to Pence may become public. However, Pence is about to face an entirely different problem.

The arrest of Michael Flynn is now reportedly imminent. During the transition period, Democratic Congressman Elijah Cummings sent a letter to Mike Pence, informing him that Flynn was taking dirty money from foreign governments. Pence ignored this letter and, in his role as head of the transition team, allowed Flynn to be named National Security Adviser anyway. When Flynn’s Russian connections were later exposed, Pence lied on national television just to protect Flynn.

Michael Flynn’s arrest will set his criminal case in motion, and in the process it should expose the real reason Mike Pence was covering for Flynn all along. If Pence was actively trying to cover up Flynn’s crimes and it sure looks like he was then it’s difficult to imagine Pence surviving. It’s entirely possible that Donald Trump could be ousted, Pence could inherit the presidency, and then Pence could be ousted not long after.

Sen. Gillibrand and Rep. Bordallo Urge Fair and Adequate Funding for Puerto Rico and Other U.S. Terriories

On October 31, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Representative Madeleine Bordallo spoke regarding aid to Puerto Rico. Gillibrand, on the senate floor, emphasizes the need for a third supplemental bill to aid the territories affected by Hurricane Maria. Bordallo, on the house floor,  introduces the LWCF Parity for Territories and D.C. Act, which is designed to treat the territories equally when they receive funding from the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Sen. Gillibrand (D-NY):

Mr. President, I rise to speak about the disaster supplemental that the Trump administration is expected to send to Congress as early as tomorrow. While Congress has passed two supplemental aid bills since this years hurricanes, I want to make it very clear that what we have already passed is not even close to what we will need to help Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands fully recover and rebuild. Hurricane Maria destroyed their power grids and has significantly damaged their water infrastructure so as to make clean drinking water dangerously scarce. Three of Puerto Ricos biggest industriesmanufacturing, finance, and tourism, which drive their already struggling economyremain severely damaged because the hurricane wiped out so many factories, buildings, and hotels. Many Puerto Ricans who had jobs the day before Maria struck no longer have anywhere to go to work. In other words, in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, this is not just a natural disaster; it is also an economic disaster that these local governments cannot dig out of on their own. Our fellow citizens desperately need our help. Listen to what one New Yorker told me about how dangerous things are right now, especially for the sick and elderly.

My constituent was trying to help someone in Puerto Rico who was autistic and bedridden and under the care of his 93-year-old father. He needed surgery. He was taken to at least three separate medical facilities, and he spent countless hours in an ambulance with his elderly father. He was transported from one location to the next, but the medical facilities were finding it extremely difficult to communicate with each other. After all of that, his doctor could not find any facility on the island that would accept him into its care. He was finally able to get his treatment, but how many more people are still waiting for help? Another of my constituents is struggling to help her father, who is in a rural area of Puerto Rico. She has only been able to speak to him briefly and exchange limited text messages. Her father suffers from heart issues and glaucoma, and he may need a prescription refill very soon if not right now. There are countless more stories just like these throughout my State and, no doubt, in many of my colleagues States as well.

The $36 billion that is for all of Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands is just not enough. After Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, it cost the Federal Government $120 billion to rebuild the Gulf Coast. That is the amount of funding that we need to be thinking about for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands right now. It will take at least $5 billion just to rebuild Puerto Ricos power grid, and that will not even cover improvements to make the system more resilient and more efficient than it was before the storm. Right now, two-thirds of Puerto Rico still does not have power. That means no refrigeration so that people can have food to eat or can keep medicine from spoiling. It means no electricity for oxygen tanks in nursing homes and no lights at night to keep people safe. It will take additional funding to restore roads so that whatever supplies do make it to Puerto Rico can actually be delivered, and people can get to their loved ones in need.

The Small Business Administration will need billions of dollars to help people rebuild their businesses, which are vital to their basic economic recovery. The Army Corps of Engineers will need funding and the authority to rebuild the dams and the ports that were damaged so that commerce can actually go on, and FEMA will likely need $8 billion more just to respond to all of the households that have requested assistance to repair and rebuild their homes through its Individual Assistance Program.

In other words, the recovery effort must be massive. There is no way around it, because we can never turn our backs on fellow citizens, whether they are in New York or Texas or Florida or the U.S. Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico. What we need right now is a Marshall Plan. That is the only way that Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are ever going to really fully recover. A new Marshall Plan would help Puerto Rico greatly reduce its crushing debt owned by hedge funds, and a new Marshall plan would also completely modernize infrastructure in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, by rebuilding their energy grid, hospitals, roads and bridges, reservoirs, schools, dams, and the thousands of buildings and homes that were destroyed by these hurricanes. I urge all of my colleagues to join me in this effort. We must never stop fighting for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to get the funding they need to fully recover and fully rebuild.

Rep. Bordallo (D-GU):

Mr. Speaker, I am indeed proud to introduce the LWCF Parity for Territories and D.C. Act, with the support of all six Members of the House representing our U.S. territories and the District of Columbia as original cosponsors. Mr. Speaker, this bipartisan bill gives parity to Guam, the other territories, and D.C. in annual funding from the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund. Current law requires the territories and D.C. to split six ways a single States annual LWCF allocation. This bill fixes this disparity by providing a full, State-equivalent share of Land and Water Conservation Fund funding for each territory and D.C. every year. This additional funding is needed to improve our public parks, our outdoor sports fields, and our community open spaces on Guam and the other territories, especially as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands rebuild from recent hurricanes. So, Mr. Speaker, I encourage our colleagues to cosponsor this bipartisan legislation and support the LWCF parity for the territories and the District of Columbia.
